Ideas for a last minute UK mini break?

DH and I have parental leave between us until the end of Aug and would really like to get away for a couple of days somewhere. However I'm loathe to book anything too far in the future as I will inevitably book the rainiest week of the year and itll be miserable! So we were hoping to pick a destination and have a plan and then up sticks when we have a few nice sunny days forecast.

We are based in Bristol so I was thinking somewhere in the South West, Dorset or Devon perhaps as we have an 8 month old and I wouldnt want her stuck in the car for hours and hours on a hot day.

My criteria is thus:

  • Somewhere we can book a B&B or campsite last minute (ideally we would be able to go outside of school hols)
  • Lovely walk
  • A nice beach that allows dogs
  • SEAFOOD! I've been fantasizing about seafood platters and crab sandwiches for months! Please make this a reality Grin
  • Some child and dog friendly pubs in the area.

Hopefully that's not too much of an ask, would love some suggestions Smile

Isle of Wight, but not sure about 'last minute'. I did manage to find an Airbnb a couple times last minute last summer when my house purchase was getting delayed but couldn't be picky.

The North Norfolk coast. There are massive sandy beaches and lots of seafood places. I presume most places are dog friendly as we always see loads.

I think you'll struggle with last minute, lots of places fully booked already

Thanks for the suggestions I will look into all of them Smile

I understand we may be limited by availability- just hoping if we choose a random sunny Tuesday outside of school hols we will get lucky but I know it's a gamble!

We just booked a last minute holiday for end of may in Great Yarmouth. Used to go all the time as kids, even had a caravan till I was about 14. I’m interested to see how it’s changed. 20 years on...

Caswell Bay in South Wales. Lovely beach and area. Not far for you to drive and some lovely chalets for rent right by the beach at a fraction of prices in south west.

Woolacombe might be worth a look too

Bude is good. I think dogs are allowed on the beaches as long as on a lead.
