London Hotel A Bit Special For 6 Year Old

Looking for a hotel that would be special for a 6 year old in London. DH, me and DD will be going early December starting with Lapland UK then going in to central London for a few days. Been Googling and not really finding much so thought I'd ask here. It's a gift from Grandparents so not looking for budget hotels like Premier Inn etc.

Thank you

A 6 year old will find even a budget hotel exciting, I'm sure.

Personally I'd go for a budget hotel and use the rest of the money for a trip to the zoo/a treat afternoon tea etc.

London Zoo used to do cabins, they sounded amazing. Especially for a 6 year old

My children found travel lodged at that age and if they had pull-LU beds, so much the better.

Luxury is wasted at that age.

Occasionally the National History Museum does sleepovers, won't be luxury but would be amazing for a six year old

BiggerBoat1 · 19/03/2022 17:05

As others have said, my children would have been thrilled by any hotel at that age. Save your money for London attractions.

If your child is at all into Harry Potter, then look at the Standard, Great Northern or St Pancras, near the 2 stations that feature in the films.

My eldest is 9 now and I’ve done this a few times attempting to impress him. What has always impressed him more than anything is room service. Anywhere that offers puddings that can be delivered by room service will be an absolute win.

Check if they still do it, but holiday inn used to give a cuddly toy to their young guests, that's all the special they need, Hilton used to have complimentary hot chocolate and cookies for under 12's on arrival

My Dd would be positively unimpressed about a luxury hotel at that age, the highlight for her is using the toasting machine at the Premier Inn and getting juice from the dispenser. For her 10th birthday she even asked (and it was the only thing she asked for) was a cereal dispenser so she could put her bowl underneath and turn the wheel at breakfast time.

Do you have to stay in London, ould you stay at St pancreas then get the sleeper train upto Scotland? That would be exciting too.

A 6 year old won't care. Any kind of hotel will be exciting.

Try Secret Escapes though for luxury hotels at bargain prices.

Any hotel with a pancake machine at breakfast eg Staybridge Suites Vauxhall has one. Young kids are fascinated by the simplest things in hotels - my DD goes on about the hotel we stayed in New York because it had a massive windowsill she could sit on and watch the police precinct opposite! Plus they made her waffles with marshmallows every morning.

Go slightly out of London to Windsor, visit Legoland and stay at the Legoland hotel. Perfect for a 6 yo.

Thank you so much everyone, definitely going to have a think about lowering expectations for a special hotel. I thought it would be a good idea because we stayed in a special themed room at Alton Towers over February half term and she definitely appreciated it and enjoyed it, so thought similar for London might be nice (appreciate I'm not going to get a Peter Rabbit themed room in London but thought there might be something a bit different in someway). Will have a look at Secret Escapes now.

I ca. highly recommend Park Plaza at County Hall for a family special that a child will find special.

There is a special child check-in area in reception where kids are given a goody bag and monopoly style money that they can actually spend in the hotel's cafe bar area.

It's also a nice location very close to he South Bank which is a great place for walk down towards the Tate Modern.

The Tower Hotel - My friend and i loved watching the bridge open and close, at night its a fantastic view.

We stayed at the Pan Pacific a couple of months ago with our kids. It was amazing; great views, infinity pool overlooking the City and fantastic customer service. It's pretty new so everything is immaculate.

Although the location isn't perhaps as central as the West End, my kids like wandering around the skyscrapers and the Puttshack mini golf at Bank.
