We stayed here a few Christmas' ago. It was lovely, and the owners were great (gave us a whole load of pheasant when we left).

It's set up a farm path off the road so no probs with traffic. Nearest town is richmond which is fab, great castle and cool little theatre

The Coach House at www.millgatehouse.com

Fantastic

We stayed here in 2006 and it was great. Leyburn has some nice shops, pubs & a chippy - what more could you want and you are right on the dales - the view from our window was stunning! I am sure you can find a diect website if you dig - they do guided tours around the Dales too...

Clayhead · 04/01/2008 21:17

large but lovely (the company does do smaller ones too)

bootsmonkey · 04/01/2008 21:17

Richmond is lovely too, as is Masham, Kirkby Malzeard and Bedale

Does Leyburn still have that fantastic little cinema? I remember watching lord of the Rings there with Dh.

Masham has the Black sheep brewery (good day trip if your DH is a real ale drinker).

Wow thank you thank you thank you for recommendations...was bashing my head about this last year and never found any of these properties...and I thought I was good searching on net...

We both are Slubber! I went to Masham as a child and I remember the sheep market and will never forget the taste of goats cheese...

Masham has the Black Sheep Brewery and Theakstons. It also has some nice art/craft shops and a market at the weekend. The walk around the river is second to none!

Not sure about the cinema in Leyburn - it was absolutely lashing it down the whole time we were there, so we were restricted looking around.

Slubberdegullion · 04/01/2008 21:37

boots, can you visit the Theakstones one? I'm not a big ale drinker, but black sheep makes DH very very very happy inside.

The Blue Lion pub in east witton (not far from Leyburn/Masham) did do amazing meals. Dh and I lived near Northallerton for 3 years and we always went there for our wedding anniversary dinner.

Have you thought about YHA . www.yha.org.uk/ most of the hostels have family rooms, and they do catered at a reasonable price, as well as providing a kitchen with all the equipment you need.

Thanks for the pub recommendation!

What is Kirkby Malzeard like Monkeyboots? Is it v quiet one or two cars an hour place? Or busier?
