Nearest airport to Kent

What is the closest / most accessible airport to Kent? I'm really confused as I've found Kent and London Ashford but no commercial flights seem to go there. Need to get to a wedding in July!

In case anyone has noticed my recent thread about getting to Falmouth for a wedding and is wondering if I am an anti-troll (posts really boring threads for people to ignore ), I'm not, I have 4 weddings this summer, 3 within a 7 day period

Gatwick is about an hour from maidstone and would probably be your best bet

Gatwick should be fairly easy to get to, makes a nice change

Also, depending on what motorways you are near, Stansted might be very easy, on the M11.

Which part of Kent ? Gatwick is probably your best bet but there may still be flights to Lydd

Manston - not sure who flys in there but it's a quite a way from Tunbridge Wells

What airports are near to where you want to go? It might be easier to work backwards to find the airport your end iywsim.

Have looked into the train, the problem is we're in Durham so would have to drive to Darlington as the early train doesn't stop in Durham. Could do Darlington I suppose as we have family there. Newcastle airport flies to Gatwick so that would be the obv choice

No that train must start in Darlington, you have to get the bus and my DH is allergic to buses

I want to go to Tunbridge wells
As far as I can see, the obvious airports are Lydd and Kent. Their websites don't have any details of destinations / timetables etc, which makes me think commercial flights don't go to them.

Might be worth looking at the train - if you book early enough you could go first class for the price of a flight!! Probably take about the same time.

Noooo- Lydd only goes to Le Tourquet in France. It's not a proper airport (and you can't get anywhere from there because there is no public transport)

Manston is far too far from Tun Wells and I don't think they do internal flights either. Wouldn't recommend Stansted- involves crossing the QE2 bridge (toll) and takes a good 2 hours.

Best bet Gatwick, or the train.
