Car seats on airplanes (2year old)

Hi,
I'm planning on flying to Ireland from Scotland for an overnight with my daughter. Husband can't come so will just be us 2. She'll be just over 2 when we go planning on taking a cabin bag, foldable buggy, bag for toys/snacks/change of clothes and now worrying about if I should bring a car seat. Will we need one for the flight? It's only an hour on the plane and worried about lugging it around the airports. I'm not a frequent flyer so really unsure what to do.

God no! I flew long haul (26+ hours) with a 2 year old. Definitely don't need a car seat.
I wouldn't be bothering with the foldable buggy in the cabin either.

Thank you that's helpful.

Why would you leave the buggy? I have a little diva who regularly refuses to walk and I don't think my anxiety will cope if she decides to lie down and not move when I'm trying to board a plane Grin

Haha! You know your child best, but mine didn't use the buggy much anyway. It's just another bulky thing to hassle with - I think it'd be tricky to board on the buggy anyway- really not a lot of room in the aisles. I'd be grabbing hold and carrying them.
If I remember airports have buggy's you can use/borrow so you could even look into that.

The website says you can use the buggy up until the airplane steps then the staff take it away and you collect it on the carousel at the other end of your flight. Thank god no way could I manage the bags, the child and the buggy in an airplane aisle.

Definitely leaving the car seat though. One less thing to worry about I guess.

Car seat on a plane definitely not required. They only have those little lap belts so you wouldn't be able to strap it in anyway,.

If you want to take the car seat on the plane, it has to have the airline approved stamp on it eg Britax Eclipse. They are a lifesaver on long flights but I wouldn’t bother for such a short flight. If you need to take a car seat with you, get a padded car seat carry bag and check it in.

I flew with 6m/o and didn't take a car seat on the plane

Roselilly36 · 23/02/2022 07:53

Depends if you need the car seat when you are there, I would say OP.

Car seat would have to go in the hold unless it’s a specific approved type. But will you not need it when there?

Buggy will be fine to airport steps but you then need to be prepared to carry dc to baggage reclaim.
