Where to stay and what to do in Norfolk

Hi,
Looking at booking a trip to Norfolk for myself, husband and 6 year old son in the may half term holiday.

We usually do Northumberland- love bamburgh in particular and have no idea about Norfolk.

Looking for a hotel near a beach with some nice places to eat. Also ideas of places to go for days out (3 days) thanks so much in advance.

Try to fit in a day at Bewilderwood, near Wroxham. Your son will love it!

Look at Chestnut Group for hotels (or pubs with rooms). Byfords in Holt too.

Beaches - Brancaster, Wells, Hunstanton.

Seal trip - Blakeney or Morston Quay.

Rockpools - East or West Runton (I forget which!)

Crabbing at Wells or Blakeney.

Holkham hall has good adventure play area and bike hire.

Nice shops - Holt, Burnham Market.

Can you tell we go to Norfolk every year?!

And Poppy line - Sheringham to Holt and back for chuff chuff train!

Went to north Norfolk for the first time last summer. Camped at Morston. Did all the areas and beaches mentioned above.

So much to do, wonderful sandy beaches, Norwich city centre is very scenic, always worth checking if there is anything happening at the Cathedral, in the past there has been a helter skelter, and Dippy the Dinosaur, on the last stage on the uk tour.

Steam trains trips, hire a day boat on the broads, or have a trip on the passenger boats, wells next the sea is beautiful, sheringham, go crabbing on Cromer pier. Langham Glass, do glassblowing demonstrations. You can often spot seals on the coast too.

With regard to hotels it depends on what part of Norfolk you want to stay, countryside or beach. Have a look on Tripadvisor.

Holkham Beach / Wells Beach are fabulous. You can park at one and walk/bike to the other and back. A 6yo could manage that no problem, and there is ice cream at each end.

Blakeney is nice for crabbing, and there is a nice hotel on the quayside.

We always stay in a cottage, so move around quite a bit.

There will be painted Mammoths in different town centres, in Norfolk you could spend some time doing the Mammoth trail, see how many you spot & answer the question about them.

I’d go for Cromer. It has a large sandy beach, some excellent seafood, good spots for crabbing etc… It’s not too far from Bewilderwood, Sheringham (which has a steam railway), Mundesley (seal watching) and I’d also recommend a trip to Roarr dinosaur adventure for your son!

As for hotels, look at the family rooms at The Grove

Ooh, watching this thread as I've booked a week in Norfolk in July, staying in Wells, Cromer and Blakeney.

I love Norfolk it’s our go to place. It’s a place where I can really relax —we may have just bought a holiday home there— i don’t feel stressed and under pressure in Norfolk. Everything slows down.
Sheringham is a good shout, so is Cromer. You can get the train between the two and a day in Holt. Beaches are fabulous. One place I really like is Sea Palling. It’s very quiet in tourist wise ie, no big pier etc, but the beach is shallow and kid friendly.

Wells is lovely, has everything you need. I also love Sheringham, has quite an old fashioned feel, and perfect for children.

The Blakeney Hotel is fabulous. Good for crabbing and playing in the mud (yes really!).

Holkham Beach is a close call to be fair - I love Bamburgh too!

Wroxham is a lovely place. Although I'm pretty sure everything belongs to Roy.

We used to stay on a lovely houseboat when I was young, we had a little rowing boat tethered by the balcony. I could have sat there watching the crested grebe's and their babies all day.

Holkham beach is absolutely stunning. Old Hunstanton is also lovely, sealife centre is good for rainy days.

Loads to do in Norfolk.

Hunstanton for traditional seaside fun (fun fair, arcades, donkey rides and the wash monster which will take you out to see the seals)

Norfolk lavender in Heacham has an animal farm, lovely cafe and farmer Fred's soft play if you get a rainy day.

Paddle boarding at Brancaster Staithe which can be booked on north Norfolk paddle boards

Wells has a lovely mini train which takes you to the beach and you can also walk llamas!

Wells and Walsingham Light railway is a lovely day/afternoon out and often has themes running along the train line.

Nice restaurants all along the coast, hotels can be pricey but some lovely cottages to rent.

Love a thread like this to remind me how lucky I am to live here....quite easy to forget on a normal day to day!!

We always have a day in Mundesley, crazy golf then to the beach with body boards. Big car park, loos, snacks etc and all beach equipment available to buy.

We went last summer and stayed at the Dales Country House Hotel in Sheringham which was nice with huge rooms.

Drove to Wroxham and hired a boat which was a lovely afternoon.

Pensthorpe Natural Park is lovely.

Holkham beach is the best beach. Wells area would be a good base.

Just re looking at this thread I created. We didn’t make it in the May half term, but I’ve just booked 4 nights/5 days for the first week of august. Staying in a lovely looking house in Burnham Market. any other suggestions now we have a base?
