We have booked the railway museum. Anywhere else you would recommend? We have a car so can travel outside of York a little bit too x

Jorvik centre is really good

JassyRadlett · 15/02/2022 07:46

Jorvik for sure! We’ve been a few times and love it.

The York Castle museum is a little bit old fashioned and mad but very enjoyable.

Mine were mildly interested in York Minster but preferred eg Ripon Cathedral (which has the benefit of being free.)

Castle Museum
The Shambles
York Minster
The Chocolate Story
Just wander round the old streets

Parking in York is very expensive though. And don't park by the river if there is a flood risk.

Oh, and Jorvik

CaptainCallisto · 15/02/2022 07:50

If they're into Harry Potter, there's a new wizarding themed crazy/mini golf called "A Hole in Wand" right opposite the Jorvik.

The Castle Museum is always worth a visit too. There's a replica Victorian street with shopkeepers to talk to, which kids always seem to love, and the old city prison where you can go in the cells etc. Lots to do there.

Bar Convent has an interesting interactive exhibition that Dd lives as a child. Traditional Italian cafe (Cafe La Tazzina) opposite that’s worth a visit.

Dig if it is still there.

LittleBearPad · 15/02/2022 08:23

The railway museum is fab

Dig - it’s so much fun! You can get tickets for both Jorvik and dig together.

Things we enjoyed last summer with my then 5 year old, yes to Jorvik, find the fossilized poo!

Couldn't get tickets to the HP golf but looked good fun, need to book in advance.

We did a HP morning on the shambles - went to potions class and then allowed to choose something from the HP shop, followed by the yummy food stalls in the market behind the shambles.

Really enjoyed the Van Gogh Immersive experience at St Mary's, my DD loved the VR at the end.

Again because we have a HP fan we went for a wander around Goathland to see Hogwarts station, have previously done the North Yorkshire railway which is fun. Combined that with a walk and play at Robins hood bay & visit to the little fossil shop there.

Enjoyed just walking around the walls, seeing the buskers etc.

If you're going in half term the Viking festival is on so will be loads going on I guess.

Another vote for the Castle museum and a day trip to Scarborough by car, train or bus of course!

Dumpydump · 15/02/2022 20:14

Brilliant, thank you so much everyone 😊
