Afternoon tea near Covent Garden

I’m planning a half term trip to London with DS (10). We’ll definitely go to the London Museum of Transport as it ticks all the boxes of his favourite things! Anyway I mentioned afternoon tea and he absolutely jumped at the idea - we’ve never really been for one. Anywhere that would be good to go after the museum would be great. He’s not picky and loves tea so no worries there but a nice traditional one would be best.

The Wolseley? Not stuffy, cheaper than lots of the others, impressive space.

The Savoy for sure if your budget will go there.

They do a lovely one at Brasserie Max in the Convent Garden Hotel. A bit more relaxed than other places perhaps, but really nice.

I don’t think I can really stretch to the Savoy without decimating my budget for the rest of the trip (maybe next time) - but the others look great! He is a scruffy boy who is likely to be in joggers if that makes any difference.

Cinnamon Bazaar does an Indian themed afternoon tea which is really good value for money. Boulevard Brasserie does a more traditional tea which is presented beautifully and good value.

Cutter and squidge is all right, very cute and pretty. Extremely sweet. Might not be traditional in the savoy sense but very beautifully decorated.

The National Portrait Gallery - fantastic views of Trafalgar Square included!

Fortnum and Mason was very good when I was there last September.
