Had originally booked to go on a European city break for NY, but as things are progressing I’m getting more resigned to the fact it isn’t going to happen.

Looking for somewhere lovely for 3/4 nights. Good food/wine, wander around, ideally no kids 😂. Budget but unlimited but could go to £2k for right place.

Really difficult when you don’t know what you are looking for, and booking.com just seems to throw up the usual suspects

Any suggestions would be lovely

Lakes Hotel and Spa in Bowness-on-Windermere in the Lake District. Bowness is a great place to celebrate NYE www.windermeremarinavillage.co.uk/blog/celebrate-new-year’s-eve-lake-district and there’s an endless choice of walks for NYD.

Bamburgh Castle.

Redtartanshoes · 06/12/2021 17:21

I koooed at that @Fivemoreminutes1 but some of the reviews on tripadvisor are bad bad. Have you been?

I've been looking at small cities like Chester and Norwich. My only concern is that a lot of hotels are doing a 'dinner and dance' type of thing on NYE. Not our kind of thing

MinnieMountain · 06/12/2021 18:52

Portmeirion. A friend had a great time there this year. You can stay in the village.

Redtartanshoes · 06/12/2021 20:33

Didn’t realise you could stay in Bamburgh castle. That would be amazing. Fully booked however.

Am only 3 miles from Chester so perhaps not that but yes to smaller towns. Might look at Lincoln too.

Would love somewhere walking distance to small town with lovely pub but no people actually near by. 😂

We've been thinking about going away for a few days over New Year but have been on a couple of city breaks these last few weeks [Edinburgh & York) so decided to give it a miss this time. However while considering it a friend highly recommended Ludlow. apparently lots of excellent places to eat and a lovely town too.

RWST holiday lodges are a two minute walk from Llanrwst, a small town in North Wales. They offer stunning lodges and incredible views along the River Conwy, check them out at rwstholidaylodges.co.uk

GlitterBiscuits · 07/12/2021 09:37

St Ives in Cornwall?

Redtartanshoes · 07/12/2021 14:37

Ludlow looks beautiful!

This hotel in Dartmouth is lovely www.dartmarina.com and seems to have availability

hopeishere · 07/12/2021 16:44

Walwick Hall. We stayed in the self catering bit and ate at the hotel. I'd love to go back and stay there!!

hopeishere · 07/12/2021 16:46

Or here www.ballyfin.com/en/ but is super expensive.

JayAlfredPrufrock · 07/12/2021 19:48

@HollowTalk

It was in Daily Telegraph this week.

🙄😂

HollowTalk · 08/12/2021 12:32

This week! Written by someone who's never ventured north of Watford, clearly!

JayAlfredPrufrock · 08/12/2021 12:41

Oh I don’t know I can get quite lary

Lovetobrowse · 18/12/2021 18:27

Not sure if you’re still looking but have you considered a luxury resort style hotel like Pennyhill Park in Surrey? The spa is included in the room rate and wonderful! Not too far from Windsor for a wander.
