Meeting my DD for lunch in the city centre - can anyone recommend anywhere interesting to eat. Also nice areas for a mooch in the shops or walk?

Cote

Ivy

I wasn't knocked out by Rick Steins and I love seafood.

Thanks @FinallyFluid are there any cosy pubs in the city centre that you can recommend?

Josies is always our go to! So good

FinallyFluid · 30/11/2021 13:26

Sorry no.

If you walk down to the bottom where King Alfred is there is a river walk which is always nice.

The Cathedral refectory is nice (but a bit echoey).

Apologies for the brevity I was in the car, DH was driving my car and I wanted to keep an eye on him. Grin

The Wykeham Arms, just behind the cathedral. One of the best meals I have eaten this year - you probably need to book.

I went to a lovely pub near the cathedral. I think it was called the William
walker.

BasiliskStare · 30/11/2021 14:41

I would agree with Wykham Arms for lunch - or depending on budget Hotel du Vin.

Wandering round the cathedral close is lovely but once on the high street shops are very much more chain store types - though lots of them

Depending on when you go they do have a Christmas market near the cathedral - here www.visitwinchester.co.uk/event/winchester-cathedrals-christmas-market/

Went to The Wykeham Arms - absolutely wonderful - 3 roaring log fires crackling away - thanks so much for the recommendations.
