Hello Munsnet, ideas please. My parents are coming (finally) to visit next year & as part of their trip they would like a holiday cottage ''a little coastal village west of Bristol" for a few days. We have a dog too.
TIA.

What time of year? As that really effects whether dogs are or aren’t allowed on beaches.

How far from Bristol and how are they travelling? The coast around Bristol is dear to me but it's muddy, windy and not all that picturesque and quite a lot of run down, like Weston super mare etc.

Wales is easy to reach by motorway and train and has nicer villages once you get to ogmore or so. Or travel further to the North Somerset coast. Or ditch the seaside idea and go for Forest of Dean.

Clevedon (small town) has the sea and pebble beach
Portishead (also small town) has water but no beach
Kingston Seymour (tiny village) has sea walls but nothing else.

I'd go for Clevedon 🙂

Clevedon is also great and has a nice promenade and pier and a town centre, it might not exactly fit the rural village bill tho

How far away from Bristol? I mean Cornwall is west of Bristol but if Bristol is significant (?visiting relatives there) then it might be a bit far.

Swansea Mumbles

Kewstoke/sand Bay Area. Small village on the edge of Weston. You'd have uphill and bleadon nature reserves, sand bay beach, woodspring priory, sand point and middle hope all within easy reach. Clevedon 10 mins down the motorway and Weston town centre easily reachable by car for restaurants, the woods and seaside tat.

Sand Bay is lovely. I would like to retire there. V close to Weston SM though.

How about a village in the Mendips instead?

Clevedon

You could head due south to Dorset. Swanage and Weymouth have nice beaches. It's about an hour and a half from the south side of Bristol.

Do not go to Severn Beach. Its all estuary mud....

Wow guys, thanks for all the answers!!. They are really helpful. Will have a chat my my parents today. Probably will be back with more questions. We would be travelling by car and it is for 3 nights late July/early August.
