A night away in a nice hotel or somewhere totally different

Not sure what I'm looking for really. What to give my partner a night away somewhere between London and Yorkshire in December - somewhere a bit different or somewhere a bit glam. Maybe with something nearby that's interesting to do but not too important. I know that this is really vague - sorry! Any ideas?

Cambridge is lovely, and very pretty in the winter. The University Arms is a v nice hotel.

The hotel that used to be a prison in Oxford?

If you're not sure what you want, Manchester probably ticks a lot of boxes. There are several boutique hotels converted from textile factories like Abode, which are quite quirky and there's lots to do in Manchester for a single night's break.

Can you still do late nights at the Natural History Museum? I always wanted to do one of their adult sleepovers

We love The Crab & Lobster in Thirsk. All individual rooms, the restaurant is so good, staff are so friendly and there's hot tubs. It's not far from Fountains Abbey which is always a lovely day out.

They might require two nights min, but there are some lovely places on the Coolstays website.
