Isles of Scilly - October half term

We’re due to start on St Mary’s for the last week of October. When I booked I was hoping the bars and restaurants would be open for early evening meals. However quite a few seem to be closing the week before or just serving lunches.

Any top tips for places to eat or buy local food? Also best places to visit / things to do on the islands with a 5 year old ?

Thanks!

No idea about food at that time of year, sorry.
We first went to Scillies when my youngest was 6. There's a nice playground up on the Garrison by the campsite that we spent a lot of time at on that trip.
Obviously beach stuff. They liked finding coloured sea glass at Porth Minack.
Very fond of the Carn Vean cafe - very friendly birds.
I guess off-islands trips will be a bit weather dependent, but do go to some. They are all different, and all lovely.
Troytown farm ice cream is a must!

There are a few pubs in Hugh town, likely to be open and family friendly. Also try Dibble and Grub on Porthcressa beach.

There might be take away vans around by Porthcressa too. You won’t starve!

My kid just loves being there, a few walks, looking for beach treasure, bus round the island. Low key fun but I love it there.
