An afternoon in Birmingham City centre - where shall I go?

Got an afternoon free in Brum, I've never been! What are the must sees (architecture, museums, outdoor spaces) that I can cover on foot in a few hours?

Victoria Square is where the Council House is, and the Town Hall and the Floozy in the Jacuzzi, then you can walk through to Centenary Square which has all recently been re-done.
When you are there, go into what we all call the new library. It is a very modern building on the outside. I think it is lovely, but, as you might expect, some people hate it, but it is certainly an interesting building.
Worth going inside. They have a beautiful round galleried area and the Shakespeare library is worth a visit too. Then there is an outside garden near the top from which you can look out over the City's landscape.
Then, come back down into Centenary Square and walk through the ICC / Symphony Hall and you will be by the canals. Lovely to walk along there, and lots of places to eat of stop for a coffee.

To the side of the Council House, is BMAG (Bham Museum and Art Gallery) which is free, and well worth a wonder round. I know nothing about art, but enjoy popping in most years. There is also an Edwardian Tea Room in there which is popular.

One of B'ham's Catherdrals (St Philips) is a short walk away if you like Cathedrals.
That should easily fill an afternoon Smile

Just popping back to say a quick thank you especially to @Kite22 for the library recommendation - what an amazing building!

Glad you liked it....some people think it strange when a library is a place recommended for a visit Smile

Hope that you have a more favourable view of Brum now that you have seen it for yourself Smile
