Can leave from 10 in the morning, don't have to be there until about 7pm... Only a 2 hour 45 minute drive so looking to spend the day doing stop / stops... any suggestions of things to do on the way with two primary aged kids? TIA Grin

My parents often stop at Lowther Castle.
Ullswater is only a short detour off the M6 if it's a nice day for a walk or rowing boat / canoe hire from Pooley Bridge or Keswick for a boat ride on Derwentwater.
Carlisle castle and there's a nice park and play area by the river next to it. I think you can get to parts of Hadrian's wall too.
New Lanark visitor centre.

Gretna outlet village 😁👍

New Lanark

South lakes or north lakes?

Redtartanshoes · 21/09/2021 19:32

I wouldn’t bother with Gretna just now, they are renovating, hardly anything open.

Keswick usually has stuff going on nice park and Cinema too

Stop at Tebay Westmorland services although the south side is better the food is great at both. Lowther park ( you have to pay to get in) has a massive climbing frame for kids. Walby farm park (bit pricey) has lots to do. It is not far from M6 Carlisle. Rheged is just off M6 near Penrith outdoor fort and indoor shops plus painting pots, mugs etc and indoor soft play next to it. You could easily combine this with Pooley Bridge which is lovely. Granny Dowbekins for food.

It is dark by 8 o’clock so you might want to be in Glasgow earlier than 7pm and don’t forget rush hour traffic.

Whereabouts in the Lakes are you starting from?
