Special hotel in Liverpool

I'm looking for some advice on hotels in Liverpool, feel like I'm going round on circles on TripAdvisor etc . DH and I have silver wedding in a couple of weeks and without covid might have gone back to Venice (where we had honeymoon) or had a ceilidh. However neither of them are going to happen but we have got a couple of days we can get away. Had thought of York but it's a race weekend and likely to be v busy and unpleasant (according to Mumsnet!) So now looking at Liverpool. Have never been. Likely to go to some museums etc, lots of pubs and some nice meals out. Trying to decide on hotels. Want to be walking distance to main areas and willing to pay reasonable amount as it's special occasion. Am looking at Crowne Plaza, Malmaison and any other suggestions! Hope St is fully booked. Reviews for both the above are quite mixed, and I'm struggling to make a decision. Any advice / top tips gratefully received!

Ah, I’d have said Hope St!

No chance of waiting until they have a free room? (Tbf I haven’t stayed in other Liverpool hotels - I’m sure they’re wonderful - but I adore the simplicity of Hope St. And its location.)

Recently stayed at The Resident and loved it.

I love the Malmaison, but be aware it's next to the main road and not a very salubrious area - that said, it's a few minutes into the older areas of the city or the docks.

Nice rooms at Hotel Indigo, lovely random complimentary chocolate bars and cans of pop too!

Crowne Plaza is very bland, I don't rate it.

I love Liverpool and pre Covid visited it a LOT for work. Definitely go to Mowgli for dinner one night - the Bold Street one is a lot more casual than the Water Street one, but I prefer it if you can get in.

We have booked the resident having stayed at one in London which was great. Have also stayed at malmaison which was also good.

It’s a little way out of the city but a lot of people highly rate the Titanic Hotel.

Thanks for all the helpful suggestions, I was looking at hotel Indigo but in the pictures the rooms all looked a bit lurid and migraine inducing! Sounds like they're better in the flesh. Titanic also full when we're going. The Resident looked like apartments rather than hotel but I may have that wrong (love a hotel breakfast!)

Have you looked at Hard Day’s Night? It’s very central.

I loved Hard Days Night hotel for something a little bit different. Was a few years ago since I stayed there so not sure what it’s like now though

Sorry I cant help much with hotels as we live nearby.
The Titanic is out of the city in an industrial area currently being developed so you cant really walk in to the city you would have to get a Taxi.
Bold street has excellent eating places, Leaf, Crust, La Parilla something for every one really, Lark lane is a short taxi ride out of the city but is full of restaurants.
This may help you

Try 30james street, the original building of the titanic ticket hall. In the city centre facing the docks, rooftop bar/restaurant and a spa.

The Hard Days Night breakfast was fabulous! As were their cocktails the night before!

User135644 · 06/09/2021 09:01

The Malmaison is a good hotel. Location wise you're right by the Albert Dock/Pier Head and you've got Liverpool One just across the main road.

Liverpool is manic at the weekend though (particularly if Liverpool are at home) if you're after something a bit quieter.

Snufkin2 · 06/09/2021 17:20

Thanks so much. 30 James St is full but I'll look again at Hard Days Night, might be a bit fun. Malmaison also sounds good Thanks for the restaurant suggestions Funf, good to have some insider tips!

We were planning a trip earlier in the year and were recommended The Pullman. The reviews are great but it may not be special enough if you want somewhere really fancy.

GizmosBandana · 06/09/2021 17:32

The Hard Days Night hotel is fab, but then I'm biased as I got married there! As others have said Bold St for food, there's something for everyone there. Enjoy your trip!

Malmaison has the BIGGEST baths I've ever seen, and their waterfall showers are fabulous. If you find the bed a bit hard, ask for a mattress topper. Also their cocktails - lush.
