Just that really. Going next week for the bank holiday - anything we shouldn’t miss?

(Two adults, no kids. Have a car).

Okehampton doesn't have a lot to be honest. The castle is nice, Meldon Reservoir is a good walk (depending on the route it can get very hilly) and there is a great bakery in the town (its opposite an accountants, can't remember the name).

Otherwise it depends what you want to do, Devon is beautiful and has lots to do, but being a bank holiday weekend, in the summer holidays, everywhere will be packed.

Cycle the Granite Way.

Bellever woods is a lovely peaceful place with a steam you can clamber over the rocks to get across. Hay tor a rock formation to climb. There’s a visitor centre.

Dartmoor villages maybe. Or the coast. Or Exeter. I grew up not far from Okehampton and can't think of much in town itself. There's a castle, but that won't take much time to visit.
It's a good base to explore from, but you'll definitely need the car!

Haytor, is not really near Okehampton, other side of Dartmoor. If you like walking there is obviously Dartmoor, Okehampton side is more remote and non touristy than Haytor side. There is Okehampton Castle (English Heritage), slightly further out Castle Drogo (NT)

There are some pools on Dartmoor that you can do wild swimming in, if that is your thing.

Youth Hostel, might have some activities available.

Belstone is a nice village to walk round and has a good pub with great views.

Bovey Castle or Lew Trenchard Manor hotels do fabulous cream teas.

What sort of things do you like doing?

@ineedaholidaynow walking, swimming, cycling! All suggestions on this thread sound nice to me. Can you suggest any good wild swim spots? The weather looks nice!

Thanks all, it will be a very relaxed holiday and all the suggestions sound lovely. Will check them out.

If you like cycling, the Granite way is good, follows the old railway line, so reasonably flat and avoids roads most of the way (think you might have to cross one)

Castle Drogo has some lovely walks round it
