Take the dog to Cornwall?

I'm hoping to book a last minute short break to Cornwall this sept.

I've been lots of times before with my dog, but usually in a large family group with other dogs so we can split off and someone volunteers to take the dogs off in walks etc while the rest of us mooch around the towns/beaches.

This time I'm going with just my bf and I was wondering will it be pain to have the dog with us? He (bf) hasn't been to Cornwall before and my dog has so I don't want to spoilt the break by having to arrange everything around the dog (as I imagine Cornwall is going to be fairly stressful as it is!)

I have a friend who can look after my dog at home, so that's not the issue, more that I'll miss the dog and hate going away within the UK without her!

Bf loves the dog, but it is restrictive when it comes to beaches/evening restaurants - please advise!

What kind of accommodation is it?

Cornwall is one of the most dog friendly places I've been! Some of the beaches have restrictions during May-September but we've taken ours twice and they were allowed everywhere! Even the Jamaica Inn museum and Bodmin Jail (it was raining but they had a fab time and lots of other dogs there too). We took them to Port Isaac and Tintagel too and they were allowed in all the pubs/restaurants that we tried, im sure there's some they aren't allowed in somewhere if you wanted a dog free evening!

I guess it depends on how your BF feels? It is obviously more restrictive for you as you have to make sure everywhere you go is dog friendly ahead of time but im like you and would struggle leaving my dogs at home when I know how much they love the beach. I realise I am no help in this matter haha

Is your dog good in lengthy traffic jams in the car? Is your dog good with rain in Cornwall? Is your dog good with people who complain about nothing? Are you capable of booking outdoor tables in advance? If so your dog will probably be fine.

We took our dog at the end of July. It was fine, even though the weather was boiling. It will depend on what you want to do though. There are plenty of dog friendly beaches, all of the national trust ones are dog friendly.

It will depend as well on how well behaved your dog is around town. Are they happy to sit under the table while you eat etc. Luckily I also have a DH who is happy to wait with the dog while the dds and I go on things like an inflatable water park.

So really. You could make it fine with the dog, but it depends on what you want to do.

Take the dog for sure. You say you'll be visiting in September so it'll be considerable quieter then hopefully! Also cooler for your dog but not yet winter (not that it's even hot here in august atm). Many many beaches are dog friendly. You can find that out easily online! I would say Cornwall is very dog friendly! Obviously need to choose dog friendly accommodation 😊

I would always take our dog for UK holidays - most UK pubs and even many restaurants are dog friendly these days. I would recommend you get an Airbnb/holiday rental rather than stay in a dog friendly hotel though. We stayed in a dog friendly hotel with our dog and they were really on guard and barked at every noise another guest would make, alarm barks at 6 am if someone was up early etc. Much better to have your own place with a dog. But def take the dog! I love holidays with our dog, especially somewhere where most of the activities will be walks and the pub after the walk!
