Where to stay and eat in Liverpool

Going to Liverpool next weekend, need a nice hotel (with parking) and some ideas of where to eat. Thank you.

Marriot - nice but rather expensive.
Ibis - adequate and somewhat cheaper.

As to where to eat -
40 Hope St and London Carriageworks are reputed to be amongst the best in Liverpool.
