Honestly? Don’t go. What’s the point in making yourself stressed and miserable?

Hire bikes and cycle places to avoid congested roads and full car parks.
The least crowded beaches will be on the west.
Be prepared for a walk to reach a quieter spot of beach. The Hanover Point end of Compton Bay is not a good choice for avoiding people on a busy day. The car park overflows and the ice cream van has a queue. However, if you want to avoid people as much as possible then it is much quieter at the far end. Park at the Compton Farm car park, walk through a field and climb down the steep steps with the gorgeous views down the coastline. The steps are a bit hairy if you’re also carrying three bodyboards, a windbreak and a picnic bag though, so pack light.

It's a strange predicament to put yourself in; choosing to do something for pleasure that you also dread!

Where on the IOW will there be crowds you can't avoid? If you're outdoors you're OK and as PP said, it's not difficult to walk a bit further down the beach and find a quieter spot.

Don’t go then

A popular holiday destination in school holidays in a pandemic ? You get what it says on the tin.

Don't go! Those crowds are just people doing the same as you're doing, if you don't want there to be crowds don't become part of it!

One of my friends has just come back from St Ives in Cornwall. TBH the crowds she came across on holiday made it sound like a nightmare.

I would rather be in my back garden in hot weather than a crowded beach.

I would just try and find somewhere really unpopular or go out very early or late in the day to avoid the crowds.
