Family restaurants in London

We are going to London for the weekend at the end of July with 6&9yo DD.

Had planned to do the Rainforest Cafe, but it's fully booked all weekend.

Where else would be recommended please? I'd like to do one special family meal and clearly need to get it booked!

Thanks

Hi there
We used to go to Garfunkel's as kids but it now looks to be taken over by Frankie and Bennys but this one is a great location

Alternatively a trip to China town for a Chinese used to be one of our favourite treats

Depends what sort of food you and your kids like. Rainforest Cafe food is awful so you dodged a bullet there! For cheaper family friendly meals we like Pizza Pilgrims, Flat Iron for steak, Honest Burger, Shake Shack, Padella for pasta, My Old Dutch for pancakes.

Definitely a meal in China Town if you can - I like Joy King Lau.

You could do a fun afternoon tea for something different - loads of good ones in London.

I really like taking my kids for breakfast up the Shard (costs about £15-20 a head at Aqua Shard). Personally I like Bills but it's not very unique. Tredwells in Leicester Square does a kids' tasting menu (though too fancy for my youngest who has simple tastes). I also like the rooftop restaurant at Selfridges and the Wolseley though more suited to older kids.

Oh and Inamo is fun with interactive tables to play on

Benihana is good fun for the kids

Hi
I live in London and my daughter is 11 so I’m here to help.

Firstly I would not recommend the Rainforest Cafe as it’s just a tourist trap and the food is expensive and not great so it’s good for you that it’s booked up.lol

  1. Covent Garden is lovely and has lots of restaurants, just turn up and you’ll get a table . 2)China Town is a must if the kids like Chinese food but go lunch time for dim sum and if your kids like noodles and rice then they will love it plus there is lots of little cafes who do the bubble tea and little moons ice cream.
  2. pizza express
  3. Wagamama All restaurants cater for kids to be honest with you. Also I would recommend Hyde park or Regent’s Park if the weather is good and you can hire a little boat ( pedalo) and the kids will love it and have a little picnic there.

You could even go to London Zoo as it’s in Regent Park but you may have to book ahead but I would highly recommend going as it’s lovely and they need all the support they can get as it was closed for so long.
Hope I’ve helped, feel free to message me if you need any more suggestions .
Have a great time
X

Yes, the OXO tower brasserie is lovely and it's nice wandering down the river to it (there's often a man who does great sandcastle creations on the beach nearby)

Thank you all for these suggestions. Glad to hear that not booking the Rainforest Cafe was a plus!

I'll take a look at places properly. I appreciate all your ideas.

We're staying at Trafalgar Square, so most places are walking distance.

@kth35 I'm looking at breakfast up the Shard - at Aqua Shard I'm only seeing Brunch for £46 per person. I'd be interested if it was the £15 you mentioned! Am I missing something? Thanks

The parlour at Fortnum and Mason is fun - can build your own ice cream sundae.

Pizza on the boat at Thamesis dock at Vauxhall (it was on The Apprentice a couple of years back)

When they are a bit older this might be fun....
