Could anyone recommend places to stop with playgrounds, walks, nice places to eat. I have a 4 and 6 year old boy and it’s going to be a long journey! They will need somewhere to run around with toilets.

We're doing a similar journey from Sussex to Newquay in a couple of weeks. We've found this place to stop and have lunch about halfway (it's free entry, and no need to book, so no problem if we get delayed arriving due to traffic).

We've done Kingston Maurward before. We tend to end up at NT places on that route so Montacute House, Killerton House, Stourhead - but expensive for a fairly brief stop if you're not a member. Or the Hawk Conservancy or Finkley Down Farm if you want a longer stop.

Just off J16 of the M4 before you drive in to Swindon has Lydiard Park, lovely big park with playpark, cafe and toilet facilities and quite often more on too (caveat maybe not at the moment due to Covid) good place for a short break from driving with kids.
