Covid19 insurance

So, we've booked cottage holidays for Derbyshire and Cornwall.

Those of you who have booked cottage holidays in the UK:

  1. Have you taken out insurance to cover the event of you testing positive when you're due to go on holiday?
  1. Does insurance cover the event of you needing to isolate even if you have a negative test?
  1. Is there such a thing as Covid only insurance? DP has existing medical conditions which are non-covid related so the cost of insurance covering all eventualities would be high. We only want Covid cover.

Does the company you’ve booked with not have a covid policy? We booked a caravan on a small independent site. 2 days before we were due to go dd2 got the message to isolate due to a case in her class. They changed it to the next available date which suited us at no cost. I thought most places were doing this at the moment? I might be wrong, but worth checking with the company.

I looked into exactly this. My medical conditions make travel insurance very expensive. When I go abroad I don't mind paying £500 but for the UK where healthcare is free I found it was still very expensive. I would never not declare health conditions because insurance companies will use it to invalidate the whole policy.
Anyway I found a company called Citybond. They ask you to declare all pre-existing conditions but then you can opt to not have them covered. It came down to £40.

Not all places are doing free cancellation. Out of 4 short breaks I have booked this year only one is free cancellation.

The site I booked with had nothing about free cancellation on their website and I paid in full as only booked with a few weeks notice. When I called them to let them
Know we wouldn’t be able to come due to dd having to isolate they just offered to change the dates. I was really expecting to have to loose the money.

It might be worth checking even if it isn’t advertised.

Thanks for the replies. I know the company would refund in case of national or regional lockdown but there's nothing to say they'll cover individual infection or self-isolation/quarantine. In fact, they offer Covid19 insurance on their website available for you to buy (it's a UK cottage company).

We've done ours with staysure and I didn't declare DHs medical history. I'll probably have made it null and void but we just wanted the covid cover. Setting off today and everyone is negative so far 🤞
