Travelling to St Ives

Hello all! I wondered if you could help settle a discussion please?

My partner and I are going to St Ives on Friday from Birmingham. I will be working until 4 but could possibly finish at 3.

I think it would be ideal to leave at 3pm but partner is of the opinion we should leave at 6pm to avoid the after work traffic. I'm concerned as the drive should take over 4 hours but obviously we'll take breaks so then the journey will be much longer. Obviously at 3pm we'd hit that work traffic but could look at going to services for a few hours.

It maybe that I can't leave at 3pm anyway. But what do you think is the most sensible idea?

Thanks

And if tide times weren’t aligned you may not even see the sea but endless mudflats !

We always leave at 6. But be careful because there is a section of the A30 at Truro closed overnight. There is a short diversion from the a30 to the Newquay road, takes an additional 10 minutes maybe. We made the journey to west Cornwall recently, at 6pm. A bit of traffic at the start of our journey, usual tail end of the day stuff, then totally clear roads.

I would never leave at 3pm because I think arrival time would be similar. It’s a journey that can take 4.5-7.5 hours depending on traffic!

@Twizbe

Just be careful if you meet a man with seven wives

Leaving at 6 seems a sensible decision that you have made. Hope you have a lovely break.
