Hi

Please could you recommend somewhere very lovely and fancy for a pre theatre meal in September. Two adults and two girls age 9.

We would love real treat before we go and see Wicked! Money not really an issue for this one.

Thanks

The Criterion was the go to place, but not sure if its open yet
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Criterion_Restaurant
More info herewww.bighospitality.co.uk/Article/2009/07/10/The-Criterion-Restaurant-reopens

Its been in several films

Have a look at where the theatre physically is and see what's nearby.

The Ivy (the original one, not the new cafes)
The Savoy
Sketch
Dishoom

Depends what cuisine you want and how far you want to walk or taxi after the meal. So many good options to choose from!

The Wolseley or Delaunay (same owners)

The theatre is in Victoria which is quite a distance from the West End.

AtillatheHun · 25/06/2021 14:06

Isn’t Wicked at the Victoria Palace? Criterion no good for that but the new cabinet war office hotel in Westminster might be open by then.

AtillatheHun · 25/06/2021 14:07

Cafe Colbert on Sloane Square is hardly fine dining but great for kids and a beautiful room, generally a good sprinkle of celebs too. And close to the theatre.

Victoria is a bit of a wasteland for good restaurants. I'd go West End and treat myself to a cab.

The Goring www.thegoring.com/food-drink/the-dining-room/childrens-menu/

HeronLanyon · 25/06/2021 16:20

It’s not a strong restaurant area.
If you mean really slap up then the Goring is right there but top end is a waste of money if you are worried about getting to a theatre.
ALSO loads of restaurants are not offering ore theatre due to lack of staff. Many not open Until 7 or 7.30. Best scenario because of this if you are in town all day staying over - slap up lunch (but many are not offering lunch) a wander then ready for theatre with drinks/bar snacks etc.

Westfacing · 25/06/2021 16:22

The Goring - five minute walk from the theatre.

Victoria is a bit of a wasteland for good restaurants

There is a few nice hotels that do food in and around Victoria

what about somewhere like the Taj Buckingham gate

HeyDuggeesFavouriteSquirrel · 25/06/2021 16:23

The Goring is near Wicked and has a lovely atmosphere and restaurant. Also A Wong is a two-Michelin starred Chinese restaurant in Victoria, though the food is lovely the decor isn't super glamourous.

HeronLanyon · 25/06/2021 16:33

bruffin good point. I
Was a bit broad brush there. It’s not easy for lots of flexibles and good/lovely atmosphere choice like soho/c garn. Cinnamon club is one of my very faves and the right side of the park. But still a short taxi up to
Victoria if heels make walking difficult (hope not but never know)

Thanks for the inspiration all - will take a look at these.
