What makes a great family day out / experience

A friend who’s setting up a new family-focused business recently asked “What makes for a great family day out?” He was mainly interested in indoor experiences. This is what I said as an ultimate wishlist - what did I miss?!

  • It needs to be accessible with a buggy
  • If you want me to leave my buggy, make sure there’s a big, well located and fairly secure area for putting it in
  • It should be clean and smell good
  • Plenty of nice loos. Sinks the kids can reach with water that won’t scald them. Ideally some that are kid height or have kid seats
  • It should be secure - kids that are ‘runners’ shouldn’t be able to break free etc.
  • Not feeling time-pressured (a bit of forgiveness if we arrive a bit late; opportunities to take the temperature down if the kids are hyped; being able to do a loo or snack stop if required)
  • Storage lockers can be great (depending on the set-up)

I’m really interested in whether you think I’ve missed the most obvious thing!!

Really good coffee and food options, including catering well for main allergies

Decent food that isn't just chips and burgers. Really good well done coffee!

A play area. Preferable a bit covered so can be used in rain and sun.

A picnic room / covered area. Not everyone can afford to buy food or coffee on a day trip!
