16-17 saver railcards

Hope someone can help.

My child travels to school on train and we get an annual season ticket (works best as they use same route to visit friends on weekends and school holidays too).

Child will turn 16 part way through next season ticket at which point will no longer qualify for child. I understand they can get a 16-17 saver railcard which will give same level discount but as they turn 16 part way through the season ticket how would I proceed?

Would I need to get the 16-17 saver card and the adult season ticket before they turn 16 (and can that even be done?) or can I transfer it part way through? Or can the child season ticket be used until it expires even after they have turned 16?

Does anyone know?

Many thanks!
