Has anyone got any tips for Polzeath?

We are staying right on the beach in august for a week, 2 boys aged 5 and 9, DH and I. Just started thinking about it and realised with a slightly sinking heart that we will probably have to book every restaurant/day trip we might want to do, as everyone will be in Cornwall and also probably covid.

So, any really great recommendations for restaurants/trips/things to do will be hugely appreciated. Especially if there is any live music etc in the early evenings that is kid appropriate?

Thanks

The Cracking Crab, Waterfront, Bear Bar, The Oystercatcher and TJ’s Surf Shop are all nice places to eat. Waterfront and The Oystercatcher will sometimes have live music.
Hire bike and cycle the Camel Trail
Camel Creek Adventure Park is good for children that age.
The National Lobster Hatchery is worth a short visit. Don’t try to drive into Padstow though. It will be crazy and you’ll have to remortgage in order to pay for parking. Take the ferry from Rock.
There are regular ‘Rockpool Ramble’ events on the beach with are really interesting for the whole family www.polzeathmarineconservation.com/events-calendar

Thanks so much!

Is the camel trail flat?
Is watergate bay worth a day trip or not much different from polzeath?
Do you know any surf school/lessons for my 9 year old you could recommend?
Thanks so much

The Camel Trail is largely traffic free, surfaced and virtually level. The countryside is beautiful. Bike hire is in plentiful supply in Wadebridge with three shops including Bridge Bike Hire in Eddystone Road at the start of the Wadebridge to Padstow stretch.
Watergate Bay is a large beach popular with surfers but I don’t think it’s worth a day trip. If it wasn’t peak season, I’d suggest day trips to Port Isaac and Tintagel.
I can’t help with the surf lessons, sorry.

I really appreciate your taking the time to answer, thank you. Have booked a couple of the restaurants on your list and emailed the others!
