I want to go away for a night with DH - ideally to a nice town/village by the sea that has character, nice indie shops and restaurants. It needs to be within a 3hr drive from Herts. Any recommendations for locations or nice hotels? Last time we went to Lymington in Hants.

I just booked a night Portsmouth for next year, primarily to go to a concert but bonus is there's Gunwharf Keys with it's restaurants and shops as well as Historic Dockyard etc.

I was thinking somewhere a bit smaller than Portsmouth. (Went to Uni in Southampton and they hated anyone from Portsmouth!)

Southwold, Frinton, Whitstable or Hastings

Rye might fit the bill?

North Norfolk Coast.

Stay at either Byfords in Holt or The Hoste in Burnham Market

Absolutely masses to do from beaches to farm shops to galleries to seal watching.

@Fivemoreminutes1

Southwold, Frinton, Whitstable or Hastings
I thought Hastings was supposed to be a bit of a hole (apologies to anyone from Hastings, but this came from someone who lived there)

Some really good suggestions here, thanks

Whistable is nice for a night. Fisherman’s huts are lovely with parking for an alternative to a hotel room.

Aldeburgh/southwold in Suffolk, or the north Norfolk coast, Burnham market area, or Brighton?
