I am planning on visiting Edinburgh next weekend for a long weekend away after forgoing a trip to Portugal.

What are your favourite restaurants? I love seafood, Thai and Middle Eastern cuisine. Any hidden gems I must see?

Thanks

Following as it’s also on my list for this year!

Six By Nico is great if you can get a reservation- Check now and then check for cancellations. Ting Thai Caravan is meant to do really good Thai food.

The MacDonald Holyrood Hotel was fab when I stayed there a few years ago!
Mostly I remember how lovely the Scottish are, very friendly people.

Ting thai caravan is lovely but very casual. Chaopraya used to do a lovely tasting menu and you can request seats that overlook the castle although no guarantees. Dusit is also lovely.

For seafood Fishers, Mussel Inn or Loch Fyne (although that is a bit out of the way)

There is a lovely Nepalese restaurant but I can't remember the name. Will need to ask DH as a Google search didn't ping it up. It may no longer be there.

Thanks for the comments so far. I’ve actually booked Fishers now as it sounds delicious!

We had an excellent meal at Hanam’s in Edinburgh but it was several years ago. It’s a Kurdish restaurant and the food was lovely.

If you are looking for Thai Dusit is fantastic. We got a takeaway for my 40th through lockdown and wow! Scallops, prawns and monkfish. Beautiful!

Hanams/Pomegranate/Lailas all same group are good, as is Babas for Middle Eastern .

Maggie Smith's Prime of Miss Jean Brodie was filmed there. I happened upon the steps from the movie while waiting outside an ice cream shop near the grassmarket Grin

Portobello is lovely on a nice day, 15 mins from the centre with a beach and nice shopping street with a lovely cafe 'gogobeets'. I still think about the home baked cakes I got there last year....

National Portrait Gallery is very good and interesting about the history of Scotland, in art.

Second going to Fishers and Dusit Thai. Scran and Scallie in Stockbridge is nice. The restaurant in Harvey Nics has a lovely view of the Castle.
