How do you do a city break on a budget with 3 kids in tow?

Is it even possible?

I realised the other day that my dc have not really seen much of the UK at all. We have a very modest income so have tended to save up for a holiday abroad (we manage once every 2-3 years), rather than spending any money on shorter breaks.

We'd love to take them to visit some of the great places the UK has to offer, but want to do it without having to forfeit our occasional holiday abroad.

Any tips for how to manage this?

We use premier Inn, usually cheaper than yha, depending on location. I have sneaked a kid into a hotel room once, and it was easy, but I knew the rooms and beds were big. We book 2 rooms in premier inns. We have been all over for city breaks.

Where do you want to go? What do you like doing? Liverpool was best for free stuff. Bournemouth had the best rooms, the premier Inn by the sea front has family suites with three separate bedrooms!

Just to echo a previous poster about the Tesco Clubcard vouchers - we've used these in London a lot.

Holiday Inn Express or Premier Inn are both decent cheap rooms. DH used to get work travel points on a hotel loyalty card that we used for personal stays too. Also some business hotels can have cheap rates at the weekend.
