Place to stopover between Leeds & St Ives

We have booked a cottage in St Ives in August, & will travel by train (non driver). Any recommendations on a place to break the 8 hour train journey from Leeds overnight? I'd wondered about Bath, Bristol or Exeter?

If you are simply breaking the journey (meal and sleep). I would suggest Bristol. If you get to Exeter you might as well just keep going. Then change at St Erth for St Ives.

Bristol is simple as it is on the route. Lots of things to do and see, lots of outdoor eating too, they have allowed streets to be closed and there's tables outside, it's lovely. Premier inns are available in the centre if you have a tight budget

I'd say Bath(as somebody living jn bristol!). Much nicer, a bit of sight seeing, still just off the M4.

Bath is lovely but the OP is on the Leeds-Penzance train.
