Hello
Planning our road trip
I've booked a week in a cottage on the edge of the Yorkshire Dales
Thinking of doing Liverpool for a couple of days before we arrive there...travelling from the south coast
Then I thought or Manchester ?
Any thoughts ?
Thanks
We are a couple ..no kids involved !!!

We have stayed in Liverpool for the weekend a couple of times. It's an interesting walkable city and pre-Covid had loads to do. I liked the Tate and the Maritime Museum and generally walking around Albert Dock. Even if you don't notmally visit a pub, the Philharmonic is stunning with plaster merman on one side and mermaids on the other. It's a very friendly city too.

Lots to do in Manchester once things are open up again - what kind of things are you interested in?

In the city centre there’s obviously tonnes of pubs/restaurants, Whitworth gallery, MOSI, Mosley st art gallery, John Rylands library (very gothic!), Manchester International Festival is on in July. There’s a nice canal bust trip you can take from the city centre down to MediaCity, football stadium tours if that’s your kind of thing Smile

Loads of music venues, again once things are open!

We were on a last minute budget break, so tried the Travelodge that overlooks Albert Dock. We reasoned that we would only be sleeping there. Not exactly characterful, but it was spotlessly clean, plenty quiet and had a wonderful sunset/sunrise view across the docks. Parking I'm afraid I don't know as we caught the train.

I can't remember where we stayed the first time, which, although not helpful to you, at least means it wasn't awful.

Thank you everyone

Liverpool has so much to see and do. Malmaison is a great location with lovely views. Large car park over the road. Great holiday plans!

Hope st Hotel is great in Liverpool. A cathedral at either end, loads of restaurants and the Philly.

Liverpool is a compact walkable city centre with lots usually going on, Bold Street ( Leading to Bombed out Church) and Lark Lane ( A short drive ) are the Go to places for food.
Some info here

The Hidden gem in Liverpool is the Watersport’s place does a Speed Boat ride through the docks as some docks have no speed limit its cold so wrap up, but fantastic, £50 for a family of 4.

They also do lots of other activities so well worth a look.

I would look at Hotels that offer parking as pricing is very mixed, but you can leave the car here cheaply
You are locked in after 8PM though

We park here as its secure and clean, and a 2 minute walk to Bold Street

The Wirral, Chester North wales are all 10-60 minutes away and have lots to offer.
