Easter booking- Feel Annoyed WWYD?

Have a week booked in Lake District for a Fri 9th - 16th April.

Was always aware this may not happen cause of Covid so have a week in same destination (different accommodation booked for August). I'd always figured we'd do one holiday or the other.

New regulations mean holiday can't start til Mon 12th. Not ideal but we would really appreciate even a break and assumed holiday company would adjust the cost.

Only they won't- its a full weeks price for 4 nights. I know the industry has been hammered. I'm also aware that if we don't pay the full amount, someone else will. Heck - if I was them I'd probably bump up the price a bit more again. So I see their POV but I'm still peeved.

We could afford it, and I think it would be a different holiday from the summer one as lots of how stuff we want to do still won't be open. I was imagining this Easter just walks and open fires.

Would you pay the full price?

I mean you’ve answered all of your own points Grin

And yes I would pay.

I would mainly because I’m desperate to go away

ItsLoisSangersFault · 26/02/2021 11:55

So that's a yes - I think you're right, I'm just going to find it hard to pay the rest of the money. Full payment due today. Dh is going to be really annoyed, but he needs a break more than anyone. We live in his work (boarding school) and he desperately needs the headspace.

When I looked at booking a lodge the cost was exactly the same if we went for 5 days or 7, it was a flat rate weekly cost, I only realised when I tried both scenarios to see if we could save money. So you're probably still getting what it's "worth" if that makes sense, May have been the same cost if you'd started with those dates anyway.

emmathedilemma · 26/02/2021 13:08

I wouldn't be happy with that. I appreciate the industry has been hard hit, but so have a lot of places. Your contract was a week for that price, I would be asking for a reduction, maybe a bit more than 4/7ths to account for cleaning etc being the same for a week as it is for 4 nights.
The reason a lot of places are the same price for 4-5 nights as 7 at peak season normally is because they wouldn't find someone to fill the remainder of the week if they let it for less than 7. I think this situation is different as they don't have the option to go for 7.

Chatted to DH and he's not keen. I think he's right. It'll be the best part of £800 and we just can't justify that.

Gutted cause we all need a change of scene. However, quite a lot of restrictions will be eased so there will be stuff to do here that we haven't been able to do for a while.

Nah. Cancel

Funf · 27/02/2021 08:14

Personally I would cancel and just book the day before assuming we are allowed to travel then?

rookiemere · 28/02/2021 09:38

Check booking.com and see what other accommodation is available, quite a lot cancellable up to 14 days, in case regulations aren't relaxed.

Wait4nothing · 01/03/2021 16:56

We got a good deal booking Mon 12- Sat 17th as lots have 17th onwards booked - so I’d probably look to get deposit refunded (depending on their Covid terms) and book something else.
We are fully aware that this may not go ahead but dh work has a shutdown so only possible break for a while (and we all need it) if it doesn’t go ahead we tried (and checked the Covid policy with who we booked through so know we can get a refund).

livingthegoodlife · 01/03/2021 21:25

That's crazy. Everything I've looked at have reduced the price accordingly.

Divorcethediv · 01/03/2021 21:30

No I wouldn’t pay it

garlictwist · 03/03/2021 05:22

I'd definitely go. Four nights is a pretty decent break. Suppose it depends how far you're travelling to make it worth it. I'm only an hour from the lakes so it wouldn't be an issue.
