Where should we go for a UK mini honeymoon?

We are (fingers crossed!) getting married in August and a family member has very kindly offered to pay for a couple of nights away as a little honeymoon. We live outside Newcastle so wouldn’t want to drive more than a few hours from there but want to venture further afield than just Northumberland. Where would you guys go? So far I’m looking at Yorkshire Dales, Lake District and some of the central/southern parts of Scotland

And if anyone has any specific hotel recommendations let me know!

Hiya Edinburgh is amazing...we stayed outside the city but there's definitely some amazing hotels (sorry I can't recommend any) also the Lake District is lovely and I've stayed in the inn at grassmere xxx

We stayed in a gorgeous hotel in Windermere for our honeymoon but I think it closed down a couple of years after we left. Would definitely recommend that area though, it was beautiful!

If you are able to, try hazelbankhotel.co.uk in Borrowdale in the Lake District. It's a lovely, small country house hotel with very friendly owners (and I'm uptight southern - I hate friendly owners, and even I liked them). The food is out of this world. The website doesn't really do it justice, but check out their twitter feed to see the surrounding area and get the feel of the place.

Eaten there but not stayed, lovely food and atmosphere, beautiful area. Another pub up the road if you want to have a change of food.
If your funds are more limited, look at the B&B 200 yards away - we stay in our campervan in their campsite.

Miller's Howe also in the Lakes is just gorgeous. We went there for an anniversary night away, I think the only night we've had without the DCs in 9 years so that may be colouring my experience

Look at Chester which is a gorgeous city to visit.

Lordore falls hotel is amazing in the lakes.
York or Edinburgh are nice if you prefer a city break.

Prestonfield House just outside Edinburgh city centre is fabulous! The staff are wonderful too!
