nope- you need to book way in advance!!

WendyWeber · 27/10/2007 19:31

Welcome is part of Cottages 4 You (so are English/Scottish Country Cottages, Country Holidays and Blakes...we sometimes get the same person ringing literally 5 times in a day, thinking they are ringing completely different companies

tiredemma · 27/10/2007 19:33

You work for them wendy? were you the lovely woman I booked with???

we have booked a lovely house in cornwall for next sept.

BeetrootMNRoyalty · 27/10/2007 19:37

Wendy do you work for them?

Tell me about Treganegar - a group of houses

oh dear blakes are not our favourite after a norfolk fish and chip shop cottage was not all we had anticipated

tiredemma · 27/10/2007 20:41

Roykinnear- discuss- sounds horrendous, what happened?

WendyWeber · 27/10/2007 20:52

Oh emma, I would like to think it was me but there are dozens of us (all lovely of course ) so the odds are against it

RK, I'm very sorry you were disappointed - it is honestly uncommon, but we are only agents for the owners and their attitude is a bit casual sometimes but I hope you complained and got some compensation?

RoyKinnear · 27/10/2007 20:53

the house was fine nice decor but new on blakes books .it was £1700 /week iirc - the house was very very old and on a tiny very narrow back street
my veiw from the kitchen window was two large industrial wheelie bins filled with chip shop waste and beond hat the chip shop kitchen..i could reach out the window and touch them at a push- i took pics!
the veiw from my bedroom - the vent - which was the cause of our issue
the whole house REEKED dawn till dusk of chip shop...reeked! WE moaned buckets but blakes said unless they could re let it then we were ;iable and at that price we did not dare risk it
in the end we were acclimatised to the stench but i was aware when we went out we must have reeked of fish!
sounds kinda funny now but was not at the time. esp as i am vegetarian!

tiredemma · 27/10/2007 20:57

eugh- sounds awful.

WendyWeber · 27/10/2007 20:59

No compensation then, RK??? Is it still on the books have you noticed?

It does make me cross when this kind of thing happens - we have all sorts of warning notices for perfectly nice properties, eg one in Cheshire which is close-ish to Manchester airport but hardly bothered by aircraft noise; the owners kindly put a warner on and it does put people off, which is sad because it looks fab.

Right next to a chip-shop back alley def should have a warner

RoyKinnear · 27/10/2007 21:19

no we did not bother persueig it tbh but it WAS for sale actually so we wondered if let was a temporary thing - will check now actually wendy !!!!!......

hang on!

RoyKinnear · 27/10/2007 21:21

oooh here it is!

RoyKinnear · 27/10/2007 21:21

must check price probably exaggerated it!

RoyKinnear · 27/10/2007 21:24

no i didn't - its £3712.50 a fortnight and let me tell you its whiffy!

tell you what though - scotland looks darn pricey - i thought it would be cheap next to cornwall

WendyWeber · 27/10/2007 21:27
  • no mention of the chippie I see but 3 recommendations (apart from the stairs) in the Additional Information.

It does look great (though am also a bit at the loo opening off the kitchen - or is there another door in between?) but I really think they should mention the proximity to the chippie!

When did you go, RK? Is it too late to complain?

RoyKinnear · 27/10/2007 21:28

ooh yes it was last year...it was very prnounced ! told dp it was still to rent and he said 'obviously chippy put buyers off!'

policywonk · 27/10/2007 21:31

Have you tried Youth Hostels? We rented one in Exmoor with a bunch of friends earlier on this year - had the whole place to ourselves for the weekend. There were about 40 of us in all. I think you can only do this out of season though.

RoyKinnear · 27/10/2007 21:31

wendy dp said 'shame they did not log our complaint next to the 'recommendations;' !

WendyWeber · 27/10/2007 21:34

Funnily enough you never seem to see a complaint in Additional Info - can't think why
