Days out in Durham area next week

Will be up in Durham next week for a couple of days. Trying to think of something different to do with DCs (14 and 10)and fairly fit 70yr old GM.
Have already done: Hadrian's wall; Beamish; DLI;Durham itself; Hamsterly Forest; coastal walks; couple of fab hands on museums in Newcastle; Hartlepool docks; Blanchland; Stanhope; Kilhope; Bowes Museum and Barnard Castle; Raby Castle. Too old for Diggerland. Any suggestions? Happy to travel 20 - 30 miles.

watching with interest for suggestions as we're in Durham on Monday - mind you I feel that I should know everywhere as all my family are from Durham & I used to go up there about 6 times a year until recently.

I live in Durham, one of my favourite day trips is to go to Alnwick garden , Alnwick castle good as well. After that if time allows go to beadnell beach.
I know this suggestion is not technically Durham either but how about day trip to York only 1 hour from Durham on the train.
Gibside chapel, National trust, property is great for a really autumnal walk.

Thanks Ollie. Have been to Alnwick fairly recently and also spent many a happy summer at Beadnell. Know York well too , and as we're travelling up from Manchester, looking for something more local. Am from Durham, and up in the area several times a year, which is why it's so hard to find new things to do. Don't want to sound ungrateful!!!
KATHH - after posting this, realised there was a "days out" topic, so re-posted and there are some other responses which might interest you over there.
