Anyone know of a hippy type commune place to go to for a couple of weeks?

Things are a changing in stressteddy's world and I feel that this type of experience is what I need to get me through
Anyone know of anywhere?
I will of course look on't net but wanted to chck with Mners first if you had any recommendations

Well weirdy by my terms I suppose. I guess the idea of living in a Yurt with no telly or anything electrical sounds more like an indurance test than a holiday, but each to their own!

A pleasure! I worked with a guy who'd been there. The people who started it (in the 50's?) were real pioneers, into being self-sufficient, quite tough in Scotland at that time, hard winters etc, & trying to spread peace.

They are not specifically of any religion and welcome all, but aim for a spiritual atmosphere, and with all eating together etc. A retreat. I'd love to go, would be v. uplifting, I think, and would come back with batteries re-charged.

Is there anything stopping you from going?
Do you know if they accept children?

Me go? Oh, golly... Could think up a thousand excuses... Fear of the unknown, I suppose, is the biggest; that they will take themselves awfully seriously (you know, the type of people, women in their 50s who wear green knitted cardigans and make their own wooden jewellery and dance with abandon in the woods - and the men are beardy versions who work in advertising) The fear that if they are as described above, I will get a permanent fit of the giggles, embarrass myself and be sent home (It Has Happened - on a retreat day I went on once - couldn't take it seriously)

Doesn't say anything about children, does it? Maybe they think dch would get bored & demand cbeebies, which is not condusive to an atmosphere of spiritual growth...

But when the time is right, I will go!!

My aunt went to the Findhorn place some years ago and loved it.

Does she wear Birkenstocks? Did she say it was fun?

I think she did wear Birkinstocks and she'd probably have said stuff more like "enlightening" and "calming" than fun. She was the sort of person to take that sort of stuff quite seriously.

The people in the website photos look happy. (but then no doubt polar explorers are happy when they reach the pole, but wouldn't call the experience fun)

I have decided that when the dch fly the nest (they are nearly 14 and time flies) will buy Birkenstocks & chunky knits and start banging on about chakras, ready to be, like your aunt, calmed and enlightened.

Then will book my place at Findhorn!
