Preferably outside of Yorkshire. I am looking for somewhere semi-quiet nice walks and history would be great.
Pubs with decent vegetarian food needed too.

Saltburn by the Sea? Not in Yorkshire (Cleveland) and it has a train station, from Leeds you would change at Darlington.
I used to live there years ago and it's lovely, great sandy beach, lovely walks and it's got some lovely pubs and restaurants.

Oh sorry see someone else has already suggested it!

You might just make it to Skegness (you have to change, some days and times of day work better than others)

Train to Newcastle then Metro to Whitley Bay or Tynemouth.

Yorkshire is a huge County. Why do you dislike it so much? And if you hate Yorkshire so much why do you want to get to Leeds? I'd suggest Newcastle perhaps. It's got really good train links to Leeds. If you're not a 'fan' of the North of the UK, leeds has an airport so try France! Grin

2 hours 42 minutes to Carlisle. Take a taxi to Kippford in Dumfries and Galloway. Visit the lovely beaches of Sandyhills or Rockliffe. Do a Deer Safari at Barrend and explore this relatively unknown Solway coast.

Amazing boating and it's known as the Scottish Riviera with it's own. Microclimate.

I did not say I hate Yorkshire Confused
I live sort of near Leeds, I don't want to get thereHmm
Kippford looks lovely.
What this thread has done is reinforced my opinion that if we don't want to wear masks for hours and hours on the train we need to take the car! Grin

Take the car to Bamburgh. It's less than 3 hours. Fab beaches, castles from ruins to ornate, Lindisfarne, walks and rarely busy by the standards of elsewhere.

If you don't want to wear a mask on a long train journey are you going to want to wear one every time you get on a bus/train to explore the area?

Train to kings Lynn is 3hr 54. You have a stop in between. Then you can get a taxi to some lovely coastal places.
Much easier to drive though.

Fishyfinger · 25/08/2020 22:51

Drive to Norfolk? Probably take about 3.5 hours by car to Cromer or nearby.

I'm trying to plan a short break. Also live in West Yorkshire so would like to go a little further south.

I'd rather drive than sit on a train wearing a mask though.
