Thank you Wales for being utterly utterly breathtaking, welcoming & for being one of my most favourite spots in the world.
We have had a most spectacular week with torrential rain (nothing that wellies & waterproofs can’t deal with) stunningly hot days with blue blue skies and have had a ball.

We haven’t spent a fortune, have stuffed our faces, seen some gorgeous sites, spoken to some lovely people and we can’t wait to come back again and again.

Thanks for everything.
Everyone..you MUST go....

Where did you go in Wales? I liked Pembrokeshire, but our other trips to Wales have been really depressing.

Spied · 31/07/2020 18:17

"Just don't come yet" the people of Wales will be screaming!

LadyCatStark · 31/07/2020 18:18

I don’t think Wales would appreciate it if everyone went! 😂

iklboo · 31/07/2020 18:21

Sounds weird but I feel really 'at home' and contented in Wales. As soon as I start walking around it feels like an enormous weight has been lifted off my shoulders. Doesn't matter what the weather is doing. I can't really explain it.

PinkyBrain · 31/07/2020 18:23

Ah glad you enjoyed! It is gorgeous here, I’m a fellow English intruder but feel very lucky to live here now! Grin

CatRamsey · 31/07/2020 18:27

You're welcome OP Smile

Mumtothelittlefella · 31/07/2020 18:30

I’m so glad you enjoyed your trip. Growing up in Coastal Wales, you take it for granted. It took me a good few years to open my eyes to the breathtaking views that had been all around me.

Do come again 😊

crosser62 · 31/07/2020 18:34

North Wales.
Lush green, absolutely nothing depressing about it at all.
Hills, clear clean sea and a castle..all in one shot.
Makes you smile just looking with your eyes.

Wales is just beautiful, knocks the spots off Cornwall and everything is a fraction of the price. So many stunning areas, Pembrokeshire, Anglesey, Caernarfon , Harlech, the Gower, the Elan Valley, Snowdonia .... I could go on. Never been disappointed, great food and friendly people. Much underrated, yes it rains a fair bit, but who cares.

orangejuicer · 31/07/2020 18:42

Aw shucks, you're welcome. (Now bugger off the rest of you, ha! 😜)

coffeeagogo · 31/07/2020 18:44

I love north wales I think it is the most stunning landscape and coast. I would love to retire there.

MsTSwift · 31/07/2020 18:44

My grandparents lived in north wales so we went a lot my word the rain! Rain rain rain.

Flatpackback · 31/07/2020 18:45

JustaJot Depressing? Gosh, I’m dumbfounded. The only depressing place I can recall is Blaenau Ffestiniog, the old slate mining area & even that has a certain charm when it’s history is taken into account.

Toilenstripes · 31/07/2020 18:45

I love Wales! Beautiful country, warm and hospitable people. Great flag!

JesusInTheCabbageVan · 31/07/2020 18:46

SW here, but I love NW. We used to holiday there every year when I was small, near Porthmadog.

BillywigSting · 31/07/2020 20:20

The one and only time I've ever been to Wales (apart from holyhead on the way back to Ireland which doesn't count) was when I was about 9 or 10.

We rented the most beautiful little cottage, right next to a load of slate hills and a crystal clear stream.

It's one of the absolute best holidays I've ever been on. We scrambled up the hills, painted a small bit of slate each (I still have mine, a very smudged red dragon), paddled and fished with nets in the stream and generally had a wonderful week.

I'd recommend it to anyone. Beautiful country (and despite my dm's protestations, yes, quite lovely people too, not least of the single most wonderful teacher I ever had. He managed to make some very dry history actually pretty interesting, and actually gave a fuck about his students. I'm still in touch with him now 17 years later).

Funf · 01/08/2020 18:35

I keep telling people how good it is but I find people won't try a bit harder and find some of the Gems, they just drive to one spot and seldom look at stuff they pass on the way.
Some good info here

Ooh Funf what a fabulous link.
I’ve saved it for our next visit. Thank you, love it .

I agree, Op. Wales is fabulous!
I’ve just spent 13 days there, and my money went much further than it would on the south coast.
We explored gorgeous beaches/bays and coastal paths on Anglesey, the Llyn Peninsula and Cardigan Bay, and ate like kings at bargain prices: lobster lunches, champagne deals at the local pub on a Friday evening, mojitos by the Menai. Was truly fabulous!

wishywashywoowoo70 · 01/08/2020 22:43

Soooo many places in Wales are stunning. Pembrokeshire has gorgeous beaches and the coastline is so pretty. Lots of fabulous guest houses too. Whenever we're kid free we book a night away down West Wales. Only an hour or so away but so many wonderful places

mamaduckbone · 13/08/2020 22:29

I'm with you. We're off to Pembrokeshire at the weekend and I can't wait. Ds2 asked tonight why we go to Wales so often. Because it's beautiful, that's why. The coastline, the castles, the mountains...all of it. (Plus as an added bonus the pizza tipi in Cardigan, which we may well drive an hour from where we're staying to go to again...)

ballsdeep · 13/08/2020 22:30

"Just don't come yet" the people of Wales will be screaming!
No, I don't think we will actually Confused
ssd · 13/08/2020 22:33

I'll remember this thread for great ideas of where to go next year, thanks op.

MenaiMna · 13/08/2020 22:48

Croeso! Hwyl!

Houseplantmad · 16/08/2020 00:12

We've just had 10 days there in Mumbles and it was amazing. BBQs on the beach, swimming, spectacular scenery and beaches that are gorgeous and quiet. I even tried paddle boarding for half the cost of the lesson DD had when in Cornwall. We won't be going back to Cornwall, needless to say!
