Why would anyone be disrespectful or rude to volunteer services? Why?

I witnessed some truly obnoxious behaviour from a member of the public to a young lass on the till at a charity shop. She explained that she could not tolerate the bad language as is “just a volunteer “. Regardless, this individual carried on..it was about a plastic bag or something or other.

Just read a piece from volunteer mountain rescue in the Lake District but included similar issues from Wales too.
The article was about poorly prepared people going up hills/peaks/mountains armed with a smartphone.
I read recently of a couple in flip flops up Snowdon needing rescue.
Utilising maps on smartphone uses battery power so people phoning 999 with 1%battery in completely avoidable situations.
A group of 3 people, lost, unprepared took 12 hours and 5 volunteer groups to locate and rescue them.
The piece ended with a plea to not be rude or disrespectful to the volunteers.

They were essentially saying that they are really struggling to cope with the shear volume of avoidable call outs. The new “staycation” wave is pushing them to breaking point.
Has covid robbed people of common decency and common sense?
I cannot understand any of it.
What do you think? Can you see why people would undertake such behaviours?
Can you maybe enlighten me as to why this is happening?

Because a lot of people are completely self entitled bastards. It happens every summer in my town - dickheads park in the coast guards emergency parking to get their jet skis in the sea and mouth of to the coast guards when they rush down for an emergency and block them in or ask them to move.

Relatively minor compared to rescue services... DH and I are Scout Leaders. Although most parents are grateful and understanding, there are a lot of parents who complain we don't do enough (including in Lockdown when the majority of our leaders were emergency Keyworkers, with the rest trying to WFH and look after their own children, so we couldn't set up regular Zoom meetings...)

Self entitled, arrogant. Some even say things like: well i paid for you (meaning funding or donations).
Most people treat volunteers and customer service advisers like shit. I hate people.
