where to live in Sussex

My partner and I currently live in Bath and want to move to Sussex. Our friends are going to buy in Lewes, but I wasn't a fan when I visited. We are after a nice town by the sea with good schools (we just had a baby), our budget is around £450000 and we'd like a 3 to 4 bedroom house. Preferably sandy beaches but I know they are rare in the area, and not too far from Lewes (half an hour would be good) and possibly close to Portsmouth too. Any ideas? I was looking at Worthing? Thanks a lot!

Eastbourne isn't far from Lewes and the A27 is quite good.

Worthing doesn’t have a sandy beach. There’s sand when the tide is completely out, but it’s still rocky. Littlehampton has a sandier beach, and further along at The Witterings you have beautiful sandy beaches.

What about Chichester? It’s not half an hour away from Lewes, but closer to the nicer beaches and would take around 45 mins to get to Portsmouth on a good day.

The A27 is a busy road, especially at peak times. It’ll be getting even busier when Ikea is built in Lancing (between Shoreham and Worthing) which will probably heavily influence your travelling times to Lewes.
