Hotel near York with gardens?

We are hoping to get kids looked after by DH parents once restrictions have lifted, in time for our anniversary. I am looking for a hotel in the York area (within an hour drive) which has lovely gardens we can sit in and enjoy- without a paddling pool and kids shouting 'look at me mummy'!

Any suggestions gratefully received.

Middlethorpe Hall is on the outskirts of York. It belongs to the National Trust and has a small spa attached, and pleasant gardens - not huge but nice for a walk around. There are unlikely to be lots of children there, but it does have a certain NT ambience. I take my elderly parents there for lunch a couple of times a year, but have never stayed overnight.

Another vote for Middlethorpe Hall, or Grey's Court which is in the centre of York and has a lovely garden in the shadow of the Minster

Oulton Hall is nearer Leeds and has a champagne bar as you're celebrating. Quiet as has golf course in grounds. Still within 40 mins of York centre.
