Beaches/lakes near London/Bucks area

Live in Buckinghamshire. With the heat wave coming this week it would be really nice to get out of my hometown with the kids and go to a beach (although I’m now thinking that could be a bad idea travelling a minimum of 2 hours just to get there) or a lake where we can swim. Can anyone who is familiar with this area recommend any hidden beauty spots that won’t be too busy where we can chill and swim? Don’t mind driving for about 1.5 hours to destination? Thanks

No where that won’t be busy if the heat wave is forthcoming and people (mass crowds) on the hunt for the same spots!

However that said have you considered somewhere less obvious (compared to super well known usual suspects) like Ruislip Lido Beach as I never got round to checking it out for my child but apparently nice for children, lake, beach, woodlands and little stream train rides etc.

I fancy Durdle Door but this has been in the news recently for the wrong reasons! Sandbanks and Poole/Bournemouth is a natural choice but again likely to be overcrowded despite Covid!

Do let me know if you do happen to make it for a lovely day out at any of these spots though and have a safe and wonderful trip wherever you go!

be very careful of swimming in lakes, or any natural inland water.
it can be very dangerous.
wouldn't risk it esp with children.
