Colwyn Bay or Hastings?

Not this year, but possibly next - thinking of booking a cottage for a week to use as a base for exploring either Snowdonia or West Sussex - does anyone have an opinion? Family of four, two kids early teens. Can get reduced cottages through family, hence the restricted choice of destinations! Thanks.

Hastings is in East Sussex - not West and it's a long drive along the very busy A27 to get to anywhere in West Sussex. The town is OK but some rough areas, and beaches are pebbly. It's within reasonable drive of Romney Marsh where there are sandy beaches at Dymchurch and St Mary's Bay, plus the Romney Hythe and Dymchurch Railway which is fun Bodiam Castle is nearby, Rye is a very pretty town although heaving in a normal summer.

Ah my apologies, yes it's East not West. Thanks for the info.

I didn't like Hastings, seafront was nice but town centre didn't have much and felt rough.

Colwyn Bay. The people (and beaches) are lovely. After a dire period in the late 70s & 80's when the town suffered badly from the end of the traditional seaside holiday and an influx of long-term unemployed people (better to be on the dole at the seaside) moving into the empty holiday lets there's been a significant resurgence. Lots to do in the immediate area and very welcoming. If you've only got a week you'll be spoilt for choice. Disclaimer: I do not and have never lived there btw! www.colwyn.org.uk

Def Snowdonia Smile

There seem to be lots of things to do in Snowdonia.

I've never stayed in Colwyn bay but I visit snowdonia all the time. If you like being outdoors there is loads to do and you will not be bored there.
The Welsh mountain zoo is gorgeous and there are lots of RSPB reserves and National Trust properties.
Chester is an easy drive if you fancy a day at the races or browsing quirky shop. Cheshire Oaks (35mins) for designer bargains and The Blue Planet aquarium.
Aber falls is gorgeous, then you have all the mountains and beaches as well.

Snowdonia is great if the weather is nice - we have been up mountains in tee shirts at Easter, but its not always like that.

Sussex has better weather generally, but obviously there are no guarantees.

What time of year are you looking at?
