Via public transport, what is the best way? Travelling from Durham by train,I could go to King's Cross first then get train to Bishops but want to avoid London.

The National Rail Enquiries website has an "avoid" option for planning your route.

There’s a train from Birmingham to Stansted Airport which goes through Peterborough- you can change at Cambridge or the airport for Bishops Stortford.

For some reason, getting this to come up on a route planner is a nightmare so consider running the search as two separate journeys!

Change either Cambridge or Audley End depending on timings.

Just FYI, people abbreviate it to ‘Stortford’ rather than ‘Bishops’.
