UK Holidays: Public Transport

I'm a single mum of two children (8 & 3). I am looking for UK holiday destinations that are easily accessible via train or coach with activities in close proximity. My girls and I haven't been on holiday for a very long time so we really need a break. I live in Bedford so there is a train that goes straight to london. Has anyone got any suggestions. Thank you in advance.

We’ve stayed at Gulliver’s Kingdom and travelled by train on the same train line that Bedford is on. The park is within walking distance of Matlock Bath station (or take a taxi if you have lots of luggage). You can walk from the park to the Peak District Mining Museum and into Matlock Bath itself which has several nice restaurants and a decent aquarium. We also walked to Heights of Abraham (about half an hour each way) and the dc loved the underground tours and the cable car ride.

I was going to suggest North Wales but 5 hours on a train would be hard work, must be lots near you its just finding it
