Feather Down Farm stay - worth it?

Hello,

I'm looking into a family holiday for my husband and I, and our two young daughters (6 and 4); I'm seriously considering Feather Down Farm in the Lake District as it looks ideal and idyllic... has anyone had a holiday there or atone of the other Feather Down locations? Would you recommend? Is a week a good amount of time? Did you cope ok without electricity? And above all: was it worth the money???

We did a weekend with dd1 4 and dd2 about 18 months. It was lovely but quite hard work, eg keeping the fire going to boil a kettle which took forever. Also got very cold at night, much colder than normal camping unless you get up and keep the fire going. Also dd2 kept falling off the front, once it's open the drop was about 30cm and she'd just toddle off the edge. Even now they are 8 & 5 I wouldn't do a week. We have done a ready camp (camping & caravaning club) & not as romantic / quaint but more practical and the girls loved the campsite - might be worth a look

Sorry we were in Kent, but figure the tents & setups are similar

We did one in france. Loved it.

We did it years ago near Cheddar Gorge in Somerset.
It was nice - very nice bathroom facilities where we were and lovely that the tents were nicely spread out.
And where we were there were animals and chickens where the kids could go and collect eggs.

But yes the nights were so cold! (Late April) Much colder than normal camping as was said upthread, it was draughty where the canvas came down to the floorboards, and the proper bed and duvet was great but not as warm as a sleeping bag for normal camping.

And I do remember looking at the prices for school hols and being shocked that it was the same price as a cottage!

We did this in Devon. It was lovely. Would highly recommend. It was the height of summer.

We really enjoyed them, we had a toilet in the tent though and a shower right outside
It does get cold, the electricity wasn’t an issue but it was just for a weekend. I think that it really does depend on the weather, it’s not as bad as being stuck in a small tent in the rain but I imagine it’s still a bit rubbish as you can’t get things dry
It’s expensive but I think we would go again

Did one in Kent - absolutely idyllic helped by beautiful weather and spending enough ££ to sustain small country for several months.

I dont know if its still the case, but I booked via the french site ( pre au lit) and it was cheaper than the UK site for some of the school holidays, as im not sure they have the May week, because their summer holidays start earlier.
Thats if you want to do one of the european ones of course

We did one in Herefordshire a few years ago but not for a week - I think it was just a 3 day stay. The accommodation was lovely and the beds very comfortable but it takes forever to boil a kettle on a wood fire!

Did a weekend, loved it. But wouldn't have wanted to do a full week
