That London

Off to London to celebrate a 'big' birthday soon. Staying in the Kings Cross area.

Any lovely ideas for things dp and I could do, that we might not have done before? Money isn't really an object, but we don't like 'posh' or 'wanky' stuff, and dp will almost certainly be in jeans.

We like:
Mooching in nice areas with a 'village' feel
Hampstead Heath
Museums, but have done most of them so it would need to be a quirky one or an exhibition we haven't seen
Food and drink
Book shops
The theatre
Walks eg in parks, graveyards (done Highgate), by water
Sitting in coffee shops/bars for a chat or even to read

Need to have a plan for if the weather is awful and therefore walks/mooching not so pleasant, too.

Would really appreciate your suggestions.

Also, I’ve been to the Tutenkhamun thing, at a weekend, and yes it was crowded (and hot!) but perfectly possible to get right up to each exhibit if you waited 30 secs/1 min, and the exhibits are truly outstanding. I thought it was well worth it.

The Vagina Museum is near King’s Cross! Apparently it’s really quite interesting!

Thanks so much for all of these, which I'll check out properly over the weekend.

Stoke Newington sounds a possibility.

Really like Dishoom and dp loves it, so that's probably a must,

Has anybody been to any of these places?

Dans le Noir
Gauthier Soho
Pied a Terre
Bleeding Heart Tavern/bistro
?

Is Dans le Noir the dark/blindfolded place? If so all the reports I’ve heard make it sound gimmicky rather than amazing food. Also, sight is part of the enjoyment of the food. So I wouldn’t bother personally.

Went to Bleeding Heart years ago, was good.

If your going in the Soho direction, I love Nopi.

Photographic Portrait Prize is still on at the NPG, that’s always good.

I hardly need to tell you it’s a third vote for Come From Away from me.

I love a mooch in Hatchards book shop and the British Library though you may already have been.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 18/01/2020 20:19

Thanks. Just been reading reviews of Dans le Noir and probably won't bother.

Always enjoy the Portrait competition.

Will look at Nopi now.
