Dublin with a 6 year old?

Myself and my husband went to Dublin before we had our son and really liked it. However, obviously, a trip without a child is very different to one with!

I would love to go back as I loved it and the flight is short (I'm not a huge fan of flying!).

So, I'm after recommendations of places to stay (possibly just out of the city centre which is what we did last time, maybe self catering) and things in/around Dublin that are good for kids. I know about Dublin zoo but otherwise can only really think from an adults point of view.

All suggestions will be greatly appreciated!

The Science Gallery at the back of Trinity has cool hands-on exhibits and a nice big café.
The Museum of Modern Art of Ireland (IMMA)has an excellent response room packed with pencils, paper, pens, pipe-cleaners and so on for kids to get busy. There's also a great café with a huge playroom with easels, acres of open grass for picnicking and running about, and formal gardens with maze-like hedges.
Have a browse at Farmleigh farmers' market, which often has good kids events.
Dublina is a fun and interactive museum about medieval times. They have some resources on their website such as downloadable activity sheets to keep kids entertained throughout the visit.
St Stephen’s Green is a beautiful park right in the centre of Dublin. The playground has lots of features for both younger and older children.
The Airfield Farm on the southside of the city and is one of the best family things to do in Dublin. You can get there by public transport via the Luas Green line and get off at the Balally stop.
Roxford Lodge Hotel 3* in Ballsbridge offers budget to mid-ranged prices and is just a short walk or bus ride to the centre.
Castleknock Hotel 4* is close to Phoenix Park, this hotel has family rooms, has a spa, pool, children’s play areas and it is located on the northside of the city so is easily accessed from the airport.
